Last May 17th , Uruguay cried the lost of one of its greater writer and novelist, Mario Benedetti.

Mario Bendetti was born in the city of Paso de los Toros, department of Tacuarembo, Uruguay and he was considered one of Latin America's most important 20th Century writers.

From 1973 to 1985, Mario Benedetti lived in exile in Buenos Aires, Lima, La Habana and Spain, but following the restoration of democracy in Uruguay, he divided his time between Montevideo and Madrid.

He has been granted Honoris Causa doctorates by the Universidad de la Republica del Uruguay,University of Alocante -Spain,University of Valladolid, and he also won the prestigious Reina Sofia Poetry Award.

Mario Benedetti wrote 80 books and most of them were translate in more than 20 languages, some of these books are: "Don't Hold Back", "Let's Make a Deal", "The Truce", and "The South also exists".

Don Mario Bendetti left last sunday, but he will remain in the memory and hearts of the uruguayan and his readers around the world.
